Submission guidelines


Double-blind peer review 

The Journal will publish original research articles. Articles are welcome in all fields of tourism, including Tourism Research, Hospitality, Tourism Recreation, Food Service, Transports and other contributions with significant interest for the development of tourism understanding. EJTHR welcomes the submission of manuscripts that meet the criteria of scientific excellence. EJTHR publishes three times annually. Submitted articles are peer-reviewed. 

Authors who would like to contribute to EJTHR are invited to submit manuscripts (".pdf file" and ".doc file") by emailing them to ejthr@ipleiria.pt. 

THEMES 

The thematic scope of manuscripts should focus on practical or theoretical issues and may include:

  • Current research issues in tourism, hospitality, food service, transports and leisure;
  • Research articles in other fields may be accepted if they are significant for tourism sciences;
  • Best practices related to tourism sector;
  • Case studies related to tourism field.

PERIODICITY AND SUBMISSIONS

The EJTHR is published three times a year, and submissions are continuously accepted.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

All manuscripts must be original and should not be under consideration for publication by any other journal.  The guidelines for authors are listed below:

A)     Manuscript lenght

The Journal publishes articles whose length must be between 12 and 30 pages, or approximately between 3.500 and 8.000 words. Shorter or longer manuscripts will be considered at the discretion of the Editor.

B)     Manuscript style

The manuscript should follow these criteria: double-spaced, Times New Roman in 12-point on A-4 size paper.

Notes should be used only if absolutely necessary. When used, these should be identified in the text by consecutive numbers and presented at the end of the article.

When used for emphasis, underlining, italicization and capitalization should be kept to the minimum and should be consistent.

Tables and figures will not be reproduced in colour, so authors are required to present them in a way that the information they contain is legible in black and white.

Tables and figures (illustrations) should be embedded in the text. A short descriptive title should appear above each table and below each figure and the sources should be clearly identified below them.

References, citations, and general style of manuscripts for this Journal should follow the APA style (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association: http://www.apastyle.org). The APA Publication Manual gives explicit instructions on punctuation, spelling, abbreviations, statistical formulae, etc.

C)     Spelling, grammar, and punctuation

Authors are responsible for preparing a manuscript with a clear written grammar and punctuation. Neither the Editor nor the Publisher is responsible for correcting errors of spelling and grammar.

D)     Cover page data

Authors must use the following criteria:

  • The author’s name;
  • Title (author, e.g. Professor, Dr., Mr.);
  • Affiliation and address of the institution;
  • Address for correspondence;
  • Telephone number;
  • E-mail;
  • Short author's biography (about 75 words).

In the case of co-authors, the same details should be included for each author.

All correspondence will be sent to the first named author, unless otherwise indicated. 

E)      Abstract

The abstract should appear on the second page. It must include:

  • Title of the article;
  • Abstract in English (mandatory); no more than 200 words;
  • Additionally, abstracts in Spanish and Portuguese are welcome but they are not mandatory for the submission;
  • 5 keywords (for each language).

COPYRIGHT

Prior to publication, the author(s) of accepted papers mush sign a Publication Agreement to transfer the work to European Journal of Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation (EJTHR is owned by the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria) for publication. It is the author’s responsibility to obtain written permission to quote or reproduce material that has appeared in another publication.

PUBLICATION AGREEMENT

European Journal of Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation (EJTHR) is an international electronic and printed journal for tourism, hospitality, recreation and food service research. It comprises current tourism, hospitality, tourism recreation and food service research articles. The materials are provided for the personal noncommercial use of registered users of the EJTHR, Online full text articles are free. Copies of articles may be distributed for research or educational purpose, without permission. However, commercial use of the EJTHR or the articles contained herein is expressly prohibited without the written consent of the publisher. 

In consideration for publication of your work, if published on behalf of the EJTHR, the author agrees to transfer the work to the EJTHR (Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, Portugal) including full and exclusive rights to publication in all media now known or later developed, including but not limited to electronic databases.

The author states and warrants that:

  • the manuscript submitted is his/her own work;
  • the manuscript submitted to the EJTHR has not been previously published.

COPYRIGHT POLICIES

Journal of Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation (EJTHR) is an academic publication. The materials are provided for the personal, noncommercial use of registered users of the EJTHR. Copies of articles may be distributed for research or educational purpose, without permission. The commercial use of the EJTHR or the articles contained herein is expressly prohibited without the written consent of the publisher.

Author(s) agree to transfer the work to the EJTHR (owned by Polytechnic Institute of Leiria). This includes full and exclusive rights to publication by Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, Portugal or/and third party, in all media now known or later developed, including but not limited to electronic databases. This Publication Agreement needs to be signed by the author(s) once the paper is accepted by the EJTHR. The original author(s) still own the copyrights of their own work.
